At an declination of -80° this edged-on galaxy ESO 13-12 is a very seldom observed one. With a dimension of only 3.0 x 0.8 arcmin. and an apparent magnitude of about 15mag.it is mainly a photographic object.
Typed as S0-galaxy,it is a classisal edged-on galaxy, with some unusual finger-like features at its ends. The central dustlane is also disturbed, which maybe a hint to some interaction with other galaxies in the past.
A measured redshift of 0.0168 points to a distance of about 220mio.light-years.
