NGC 2217 Galaxy in Canis Major

NGC2217 is situated in Canis Major and is classified as a (R)SB(rs)0/a-typed nearly perfect ring-galaxy of about 100.000 light-years in diameter at a distance of 75 Mio.light-years.It has a bright central bar,surrounded by a nearly perfect ring of bluish stars.

Here on earth it is of magnitude 10,7 with an apparent diameter of only 4,5 arc-minutes.It was detected by John Herschel in 1835.
