NGC 5068 Galaxy in Virgo

NGC5068 is an nearly face-on galaxy in the constellation of Virgo. Its apparent brightness is about 10.5mag with a size of 7.2´x 6.3´.

Its distance is approximately 22 million light-years. William Herschel discovered it in 1785 with his huge 17.8 inch reflector.

The tidal tail going straight southwards from the center is very difficult to detect and the picture below is one of the very rare verifications of its existence.
