M100 ist a bright ( 9.3mag),nearly faced-on galaxy in the constellation of Coma berenices,with the apparent size of about 7.5´x 6,1´.It´s the brightest member of the northern part of the Virgo-Supercluster and was discovered by by Pierre Méchain in 1781.The distance is 55 million lightyears.
There was a supernova in 2006,which still emitts strong X-ray radiation.
