NGC 2626 Nebula in Vela

The central nicely structured blue nebula is primarily reflected light from the bright blue 10th-magnitude star, CD -40°4432. NGC 2626 is contained within the large HII region, RCW 27 or Gum 14.

A major contributor to the ionization of RCW 27 is the O star HD 73882, west of NGC 2626. A distance of about 1 kpc has been found for the young stars associated with RCW 27. NGC 2626 is also joined to a dark dust cloud cataloged as DC 259.94−0.0  The Herbig Haro objects HH 132-3 are visible towards the north of the central star.
